Governor Cuomo continues to support action to improve access to IVF and fertility preservation services, but the NY State Legislature is dragging its feet. Please help put pressure on your lawmakers about the importance of adding IVF and fertility preservation for cancer patients to New York’s insurance law. Your voice is important! Please call and email your state senator and assembly member and be heard. Below is a potential script to help you.

NEW YORK PHONE SCRIPT

1. Look up your State Senator and Assembly Member here.
2. Find their phone numbers here.
3. Here is a sample script for you to use in the Senate:

“Hi, I’m (NAME), and I’m a constituent calling from (CITY). I am calling to ask for your help in making sure Senator (SENATOR'S NAME) supports S. 3148A, the Fair Access to Fertility Treatment Act, which would update a current law in New York that was passed in 2002. The bill will help New Yorkers facing infertility build their family, and also help cancer patients preserve their fertility before starting cancer treatments. It brings New York in line with 21st-century medical treatment and gives New Yorkers the same benefits that NY state employees already have. I hope Senator (SENATOR'S NAME) will work to get this pro-family bill on the Insurance Committee agenda and speak with leadership so that New York law is in step with current medical advances. Thank you for taking my call and for passing on my message to the Senator.”

4. Here is a sample script for you to use in the Assembly:

“Hi, I’m (NAME), and I’m a constituent calling from (CITY). I am calling to ask for your help in making sure Assemblymember (ASSEMBLYMEMBER'S NAME) supports A. 2646A, the Fair Access to Fertility Treatment Act, which would update a current law in New York that was passed in 2002. The bill will help New Yorkers facing infertility build their family, and also help cancer patients preserve their fertility before starting cancer treatments. It brings New York in line with 21st-century medical treatment and gives New Yorkers the same benefits that NY state employees already have. The Assembly passed the bill last year, and I hope Assemblymember (ASSEMBLYMEMBER'S NAME) will ask leadership to schedule a vote and pass A. 2646A again this year. Thank you for taking my call and for passing on my message to the Assemblymember.”
